Different Formats. Same Mission.
People often ask me how all of these things connect:
• the books
• the children’s stories
• the Dog Walking Meditations album
• the dog training and behavioral work
• the masterclasses and digital courses in Dog Mom University
• the You Had Me At Woof matching platform
• the Whole Pet Wellness program I’m developing for Long Run VIP Pet Care
• the massive rescue effort I undertook over the last year and a half with Ava and her babies (which is still going… we still need to find Ava her perfect match!)
But the truth is… they’ve always been connected.
None of this was ever “just about dogs.”
It’s about:
• understanding that behavior is communication and information
• building healthier relationships
• nervous system awareness
• prevention instead of constant reaction
• structure that creates safety
• teaching humans, not just managing animals
• responsible rescue and placement
• helping people become more intentional caretakers
• expanding the conversation around what true wellness actually means
• honoring the depth of the human-animal bond
The children’s books teach compassion, emotional awareness, connection, the real stories behind pet loss and grief, and how each of my rescued heart dogs found their way to me.
The Dog Walking Meditations album was created to help humans slow down, become more present, regulate their nervous systems, and deepen connection during one of the most overlooked — and important — parts of life with a dog: the walk.
The masterclasses and digital courses in Dog Mom University teach understanding, leadership, behavior, wellness, and deeper human awareness. Human training for dogs. Because SO MUCH of “dog training” is actually about helping humans become more aware, intentional, emotionally regulated, consistent, communicative, and behaviorally literate in the way they live with and lead their dogs.
And the dog training and behavioral work has never really been “just about training dogs.”
Most of the behaviors humans struggle with were actually unintentionally conditioned and reinforced over time through:
• what we didn’t know
• what we weren’t aware of
• inconsistency
• mixed communication
• unmet needs (and a total lack of awareness as to what those “needs” are)
• too much of certain things
• too little of necessary things
• lack of structure, fulfillment, rules, boundaries, follow through, accountability, proper guidance, or nervous system regulation
When we begin understanding our dogs and their behavior more deeply, we often begin understanding ourselves more deeply, too.
As I’ve always said, behavior is information. It’s communication. Feedback. And it’s also a response. It reflects:
• what’s in balance
• what’s out of balance
• what’s excessive
• what’s lacking
• what’s missing entirely
• what’s being reinforced
• what’s being ignored
• what needs support, structure, guidance, fulfillment, regulation, or change
Dogs are constantly communicating through behavior. The problem is that humans are often trying to stop, suppress, silence, shut it down, label, punish, or “fix” behaviors before first understanding what the behavior is actually communicating.
Behavior doesn’t happen in a vacuum. Dogs are constantly responding to:
• environment
• relationships
• energy
• communication
• repetition
• stress
• biology
• fulfillment
• human behavior
• inconsistency
• lack of clarity
• confusion
• boredom
• frustration
.....all of which humans play a massive role in shaping — intentionally or unintentionally.
The new book explores the human side of the leash and teaches us what we need to know when it comes to living with and raising dogs, teaching them, and understanding behavior.
The matching platform was built to help create smarter, more aligned placements. To help others avoid all the pitfalls, dark areas, blind spots, and tragedies we encountered during our rescue effort this last year… even with well-intentioned, big-hearted people who genuinely wanted to step in and help.
The rescue work continues to expose where emotion without structure fails dogs, and where urgency without alignment, discernment, accountability, or behavioral understanding can lead to devastating outcomes.
And the Whole Pet Wellness program I’m helping develop with Long Run VIP Pet Care is rooted in the belief that wellness is multi-dimensional — physical, mental, emotional, behavioral, environmental, nutritional, and relational.
Different formats. Same mission.
Helping create better lives for animals through more aware, educated, emotionally intelligent humans.
Because dogs don’t fail. Systems fail them… and they are failing them.
At the center of all of this work is the belief that we can — and need to — do better.
My life has shifted in dramatic ways over the last few years, so I’m especially grateful to everyone who has continued following, supporting, encouraging, believing in, and growing alongside this journey and evolution with me.
More to come. ✨
